Absence reports and holiday requests

Acknowledge what families tell you about an absence, and approve or refuse holiday requests.

Updated 5 October 2026

  1. Go to Absences. The number beside it is how many are waiting for you. Waiting shows them, grouped by the day the child is away, with holiday requests in their own group.

  2. An absence report needs no decision: the child is away, and the family has said why. Press Acknowledge to show them it’s been seen. Their app then says Seen by the school.

To clear a whole day at once, press Acknowledge all beside its heading. If any fail, they stay on the list with the reason.

A report sent after the madressah opened that day says so, in amber.
  3. A holiday request shows the first and last day, and when it starts. Press Approve or Refuse.

    • Approving can carry a Note for the guardian, if there’s anything they should know.
    • Refusing needs a Reason for the guardian: they read it with the refusal, exactly as you write it.

Until you decide, the child is expected in. Once a holiday is approved, their teacher can give them the Holiday mark on those days.

Acknowledging an illness only says you’ve seen it: there’s nothing to approve, because a family can’t be refused a sick child. Only holidays are approved or refused.

Open the request from All reports and press Change to approved or Change to refused. You can do this until the day before the holiday starts. From its first day, the request says the decision can’t be changed.

All reports lists every report and request, with what happened to each: To acknowledge, Acknowledged, To decide, Approved, Refused or Withdrawn by guardian. Search for a child, or use the filters to narrow it by status, reason or dates.

Only a child’s primary and secondary guardians can report an absence or ask for a holiday. A guardian ranked Other is told so in their app. If they should be able to, change their role on the guardian’s record: see Linking a child to another guardian.
