Adding a pupil and their guardian

Add a new pupil with their main guardian, then put them in a class.

Updated 5 October 2026

  1. Go to Students and press Create.

  2. Type their First name and Last name, choose their Date of birth, and choose Male or Female.

A pupil has no email address or phone number of their own: the madressah reaches a family through the guardian, so every contact detail lives on the guardian’s record.

  3. Under Primary guardian, search for the guardian by name and choose them. Then say how they’re related in Relationship to student, such as Mother, Father or Grandmother. Press Create student.

  4. Open the pupil’s record. Under Classes, press Enroll and choose the class. To add several new pupils to one class at once, it’s quicker from the class: see Creating classes and adding pupils.

A second guardian, or a change of guardian

Section titled “A second guardian, or a change of guardian”

The pupil’s edit form has no guardian fields, on purpose: who can collect a child is a safeguarding matter, so it changes from the guardian’s record instead. Linking a child to another guardian covers adding a second parent or carer, and changing who is primary.

  • Withdraw them from a class on their record. The place is freed, and their time in the class stays as history.
  • Deactivate them when they leave the madressah. The record is kept, marked inactive.

To remove a family’s details for good, see Removing someone’s details.
